Bing Crosby's Visit to Howth Castle

When Bing Crosby Visited Howth Castle

Among our most memorable visitors to the castle was the legendary American entertainer Bing Crosby.

A Hollywood Icon in Howth

In 1966, Bing Crosby travelled to Ireland to film his television special A Little Bit of Irish, a celebration of Irish culture, music and landscape. With his trademark warmth and charm, Crosby journeyed across the country and one of the standout locations chosen was Howth Castle.

The castle’s stately presence, rolling parkland and proximity to Dublin city provided a perfect backdrop. During filming, Crosby was captured strolling the grounds and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the estate, a rare moment of 'old-world' Irish heritage meets Hollywood glamour.

Music, Landscape & Legacy

Crosby’s visit wasn’t just about scenery. His performances during the special reflected a deep affection for Ireland and its musical traditions, resonating with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Seeing an iconic music star in the ancient stone and woodland of Howth Castle brought international attention to the estate’s unique character which is always welcoming, and unmistakably Irish.

These moments remain part of the living history of the castle, adding a layer of cultural richness to a place already steeped in stories.

A Living Estate with Stories to Tell

Today, Howth Castle Estate continues to welcome visitors from around the world — golfers enjoying our historic courses, guests dining and relaxing on the grounds, and walkers exploring the surrounding woodland and deer park. The knowledge that legends like Bing Crosby once stood here adds an extra sense of magic to every visit.
