Howth Castle Estate are privileged to have been working alongside the CRC (Central Remedial Clinic) on the Empowerment in Bloom project.
The Empowerment in Bloom project at Howth Castle is dedicated to fostering a vibrant environment where adults with disabilities can develop new skills while connecting with nature. The initiative aims to help participants reach their full potential and grow in confidence and ability.
Launched in 2021, the project began with the CRC taking care of selected areas within the Castle grounds. Since then, it has expanded significantly, with the CRC now planting and growing seeds in their own polytunnel for use in the gardens and other areas of the estate. This progress has been made possible through the dedicated fundraising efforts of the project’s participants.
Looking ahead, the goal for 2025 is to raise additional funds to purchase a potting shed, further enhancing the initiative's capabilities. The Empowerment in Bloom project thrives on the time, energy, and commitment of its members. Currently, members of the CRC Life Skills team are actively involved in maintaining the Castle gardens and surrounding areas four days a week.
The programme's initial goals were to offer adults from the CRC opportunities to learn new skills, build their confidence, and enhance their self-esteem. A long-term objective was to create employment opportunities within the estate—a goal that has now been partially realized, as Howth Castle is delighted to have two CRC team members employed on-site.
This inspiring project makes a meaningful, positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities, as well as their families and carers, fostering a sense of achievement, independence, and community.
