The Knights of St. Patrick

THE KNIGHTS OF ST. PATRICK
If you visit St. Patrick’s Hall in Dublin Castle you will now see these robes belonging to members of the Knights of the Order of St. Patrick. The robes and the small waistcoat all belonged to members of the St. Lawrence family. The first was Thomas St. Lawrence, 3rd Earl of Howth and the second to his son, William St. Lawrence, 4th and final Earl of Howth. The small waistcoat belonged to Kenelm St. Lawrence, a son of the 3rd Earl by his second marriage and a half-brother to the 4th Earl. This waistcoat was worn by him when he acted as Paige to the Prince of Wales during his induction as a Knight of the order in 1868.
The St. Lawrence family robes were donated to the state by the Gaisford-St .Lawrence family and have now gone on temporary display in Dublin Castle following extensive conservation to the delicate silk.
