The Howth Sutton Autism Friendly Community is hosting an Art Auction and Sale on Friday 6th November at Howth Castle with artworks available from local and upcoming artists.
The idea was first mooted by local visual artist Jacinta Monks, who has been deeply moved by the work of this group. Over the past 2 years, she has observed incredible differences being made to the lives of Autistic people and their families who live in and visit Howth and Sutton.
In an extremely generous act, Jacinta donated a significant collection of her works for auction and sale as a springboard to encourage other local artists to donate pieces too. The result is over 80 pieces of original art and limited prints by over 25 artists, including Sorcha O Farrell, Karen Lee, Naomi Taitz Duffy, Susan Kirwin, Sheila Duignan, Susan O'Kelly, Gwen Delaney, Ger Mahony, Trish Nixon, Karolina Kernan Badz, Vidya Vivek and Elisa Dalle Molle, to name but a few. A number of rising stars from art colleges such as NCAD will also be participating in the event, including local artist Luca Costello.
In September, Jacinta ran an art workshop with Autistic Teenagers, teaching them about the life, works and philosophy of Austrian visual artist Hundertwasser, which inspired the group to create their own unique pieces. These pieces will be on sale at the castle.
The event will run as a hybrid silent auction, with bids for approximately 20 of the pieces being taken both online and in person, while the remaining pieces will be available for sale. Prices range from €50 for many sale items and starting bids upwards.
There will be a wine reception at the event sponsored by Supervalu Sutton, and music by Aaron Finn.
More details will be available on social media in the coming days.
